This 26 minute narrative short tells the true story of my journey from domestic violence to freedom. The journey is metaphorical but the events that led to me finally escaping my abusive situation are very real. It is told in a powerful and engaging way, and the purpose is to help others who are being abused to summons the courage to escape from violence and choose freedom for lives. Especially women of faith. My faith background is rooted in Christianity, and unfortunately there are leaders in the Christian church who are encouraging women to pray harder, have more faith, and stay in an abusive marriage in order to 'save the marriage.' This may sound absurd but it is a reality. In my work with women all over the globe, I have found this to be a universal phenomenon. This film is a rebuttal to that preaching and although it should not be controversial, it is. A second purpose is to bring understanding to those who have painfully watched someone they love remain in a violent relationship. Although the subject matter is serious, the film is inspiring, hopeful, and uplifting. Everyone loves a great ending and this film ends in triumph!

‘Southern Butovo’, one of Moscow’s remote districts, apartment building, gloomy entrance littered with flyers… An ordinary February morning. Something runs the stairs in a perplexed, breathless way. It enters an apartment, Its strange look walks through all the rooms, wondering at the most ordinary items… But what is this invisible for us creature? An extra-terrestrial camera? Life itself? Death itself? It comes so silently. Or has it always been around and never gone? The invisible eyes come upon a lying body. And what is this? A plant? An animal? No, this is a man, a man alive. A little man in the big and hostile world where Death is always near us people, near humanity. But She doesn’t kill anybody. She comes after what people have done to Life or after what Life has done to them. And what does death feel? Does She have feelings, her feelings?..
This is a film about this same ‘little man’, but in fact there is no such thing as little men, because loneliness, pain, fear of death and desire for life have always been phenomena of cosmic scale.

This is the story of those who live on an island in the middle of a lake. In the movie which tells that the life—even during childhood, youth and old age—does not change for this island and its residents, the time is depicted as a static phenomenon. The island never changes; no one leaves/can leave there even though years show them the reality called “death”. They dream about the things beyond the lake; these dreams are like meaningful journeys to them. They think of being somewhere else, in other places, maybe in different lives; however, they are knotted onto that island from cradle to grave just as their boats they knot on the dock at the end of every workday.
